    In mid-August ProRail started the design phase for the Nedersaksenlijn, some 30 kilometres of new railway between Veendam and Emmen. In the same weeks, existing lines around Zwolle, Meppel and on the A2 corridor were closed for days on end for renewal. Two ways of improving accessibility in the same region, with very different consequences for local communities.
